The Alamo Interstater difference
Not a slasher. A finish.
Most paddock contractors use a standard rotary slasher. We run an Alamo Interstater: a three-piece flail mowing system with a rear deck and two side decks, built for roadside and council-grade work. It cuts wider, follows the ground and leaves a clean, mulched finish.

- Quality of finishFlail knives chop the grass finely and spread it evenly, so there are no clumps, windrows or torn, ragged tops. The result looks mown, not bashed.
- 6.3 m cut, fewer passesThree decks cutting 6.3 m cover far more ground per run than a single slasher, so jobs finish sooner with less wheel traffic on your paddock.
- Follows the groundThe side decks float over banks, drains, verges and contours, keeping an even height where a rigid slasher would scalp or miss.
- Safer near roads & buildingsFlails direct material down inside the hood, which greatly reduces the risk of flung stones and sticks compared with open slasher blades.
- Handles the tough stuffLong, thick grass, weeds, shrubs and light bush are shredded into mulch, not flattened or wrapped around the blades.
| Alamo Interstater flail | Standard slasher | |
|---|---|---|
| Cutting action | Rows of reversible flail knives on a horizontal rotor chop and mulch as they cut | Two heavy blades on a vertical spindle cut by impact |
| Finish | Even, tidy finish with fine mulched clippings spread across the ground | Clumps, windrows and ragged, torn stems left sitting on top |
| Width per pass | Rear deck plus two side wings cut a full 6.3 m in a single pass | One deck, so more passes and more wheel tracks |
| Uneven ground | Side decks float to follow banks, drains, verges and contours | A fixed deck can scalp humps and miss hollows |
| Thrown debris | Material is directed down and contained by the hood, so there's much less risk of flung stones | Blades can throw rocks and sticks out the side or rear |
| Shrubs & light bush | Shreds woody growth, weeds and light bush into mulch | Tends to tear, flatten or tangle heavy growth |
| Paddock health | Fine mulch breaks down fast and fewer passes mean less soil compaction | Heavy thatch can smother regrowth |
Inside the Interstater
Highway-grade gear, on your paddock
Alamo Industrial designed the Interstater for interstate highways and airport fields, where the finish is on show to everyone who drives past. It pairs a PTO-driven rear flail with two hydraulic side wings, so one tractor does the work of three mowers.
Our rear deck and two side wings cut a 6.3 m (20 ft 9 in) strip in a single run.
Adjustable from close to the ground up to about 6 inches, to suit lawn, paddock or roadside.
Rated to cut vegetation and woody growth up to about 1 inch thick.
Wings run their own hydraulic circuit with piston pumps and motors, and a front reservoir with built-in cooling.
Flails on the side wings stop automatically when a wing is raised.
Reversible, self-cleaning flail knives stay sharp longer and shed wet grass.

What makes it different
- Rear flail deckDriven straight off the tractor's PTO, with a full-width rear roller that sets the height and leaves an even, rolled finish.
- Two hydraulic side wingsEach wing reaches out beside the tractor to take in extra width, banks and verges, and floats over dips and humps.
- Built to run all dayThe wings' self-contained hydraulics have their own cooling, so power stays consistent through long, hot summer days.
- Heavy-duty constructionHeavy-gauge steel decks and thick end plates stand up to rough paddocks, sticks and scrub.
- Safe to moveWings fold up for travel between paddocks and along roads, and the flails stop automatically when a wing is lifted.

Questions
Good to know
Why a flail mower instead of a slasher?
A flail system chops and mulches as it cuts, so you get an even finish without clumps or windrows. Our three decks cut a wider strip, follow uneven ground and throw far less debris than open slasher blades. That makes it better for roadsides, around buildings and in paddocks you want looking tidy.
How short can you cut?
The Interstater's cutting height adjusts from close to the ground up to about 150 mm. We set it to suit the job, lower for a tidy lawn-like finish or higher for paddocks you want to regrow quickly.
Do you do rotary hoeing?
Yes, for areas up to 20 acres: garden beds, lawn and turf prep, paddock renovation and seedbed preparation. Send us the area and what you're planting, and we'll quote it.
How long does a job take?
It depends on the area, grass length and terrain. As a guide, the 140 hp tractor with the Alamo Interstater covers several acres an hour in maintained grass, and less in long or heavy growth. Try the estimator above, then we'll confirm times in your quote.
Can you cut really long or overgrown grass?
Yes. The Alamo Interstater 3-piece mowing system is built for exactly that: any grass length and density, plus shrubs and light bush. If there's heavier scrub or trees, the skid steer or excavator can clear it first.
How quickly can you get here?
We aim to be on site within 48 hours of booking. Weather and ground conditions come first, so after heavy rain we may wait for paddocks to firm up rather than damage them.
Do you charge for travel?
No travel charge for jobs within 20 km of Koo Wee Rup or Narre Warren North. For jobs further out, any travel cost is quoted up front before we book.
Is there anything I should do before you arrive?
Let us know about hidden hazards such as rocks, stumps, star pickets, irrigation, pipes or soft ground, and move stock out of the area being cut. Clear access through gates helps us get started quickly.
Do you do regular maintenance cuts?
Yes. Many properties book us seasonally or on a regular cycle through the growing season. Ask about a schedule when you request a quote.
